RollWatch — Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Welcome to Rollwatch FAQ section. Here you can find the answers to common questions. If you need more info please write to app@marcomarani.com.

1. How do I sync my character between iPhone and Apple Watch?

Open the companion app on iPhone, create or edit your character, then tap the Apple Watch icon next to its name to send it. If the Watch is reachable, the update arrives right away; otherwise it will be delivered automatically as soon as your Apple Watch reconnects.

2. How many characters can I create with the free version?

The free version lets you manage up to 3 characters at the same time, with full HP, condition, and spell slot tracking. Editing an existing character doesn’t count toward the limit — the cap only applies to creating new characters.

3. What happens when I reach the 3-character limit?

When you try to create a fourth character, the app shows the RollWatch Pro upgrade screen instead of the creation form. You can still freely use and edit the characters you’ve already created.

4. What does upgrading to RollWatch Pro include?

RollWatch Pro is a one-time purchase (no subscription) that unlocks: unlimited characters, an unlimited Session Log, a persistent multi-encounter Combat Tracker, and, coming soon, party synchronization (Party Sync).

5. My Session Log stopped recording new events — why?

In the free version, the Session Log locks after 50 recorded events. Character actions (damage, healing, spells, etc.) keep working normally, but they stop being logged until you manually clear the log using the reset button, or unlock RollWatch Pro for an unlimited log.

6. How do spell slots work?

Enabling the “Spellcaster” option when creating a character makes RollWatch automatically calculate available slots based on level, following the official D&D 5e full-caster table. You can use and recover individual slots from the “Spells” screen, or restore them all with a long rest.

7. How do I add or remove conditions (paralyzed, poisoned, etc.)?

From your character’s “Conditions” screen, tap any condition to toggle it on or off; active conditions also stay visible on the character’s main screen for quick reference during a session.

8. How does advantage/disadvantage work when rolling dice?

On the Dice screen you can set the roll mode (normal, advantage, disadvantage) with the dedicated button: with advantage or disadvantage active, every d20 roll automatically rolls two dice and keeps the higher or lower result.

9. How does the Combat Tracker work?

Add participants along with their initiative, then start combat: the app automatically orders the turns and lets you advance, mark a participant as defeated, or apply conditions and HP changes directly from the list.

10. Is my data safe? Does RollWatch require an internet connection?

No, RollWatch doesn’t require an internet connection for everyday use: character data stays on your iPhone and Apple Watch and is only exchanged between your two devices via Watch Connectivity. The app doesn’t collect or transmit any data to external servers.
